DeSantis signs bill to exempt travel records from public
FLORIDA (SNN TV) - Governor Ron DeSantis signs a bill that prevents the release of past and future travel records of himself and state leaders.
The Herald-Tribune reports SB 1616 passed along party lines. It provides public records exemption for travel records of DeSantis, the governor's immediate family, the lieutenant governor, Cabinet members, the House speaker and Senate president, and the chief justice of the Florida Supreme Court.
Democrats say the exemption would go beyond travel itineraries and suppress information on where the governor goes and who he met. Republicans claim it was based on security measures.
An opposition group called DeSantis Watch said the bill was signed before the governor made "political trips to Illinois and Iowa amid reports of upcoming donor dinners at the Governor's Mansion."
