Late last year, a Suncoast musician, was seriously injured in a head on collision. A Nokomis bar, and 12 musical acts joined together to raise money in support.

The Benefit for local musician Deven Starr was held at Pop’s Sunset Grill earlier this week.

Musician, Robert Viola had the idea to put on the event just weeks before. He said fellow musicians jumped on board immediately.

“We’re here for a day for Deven. He was coming home from a gig, and somebody came into his lane, and hit him head on. So he’s healing up from that. He’s going to be out a little while, and we wanted to do something for him”, said Robert Viola.

Time, talent, and tips were donated by the 12 performing acts. There were also silent auction items, and raffle items, at Pop’s Grill, in support for the musician. People were buying Devens merchandise, as well as giving money to him through venmo.

Stephanie Brown, the General Manager said the head on collision was on December 30th

“So he is out of commission for a while. He did survive, which is great. But he won’t be playing for a while, and this is his income”, said Stephanie Brown.

Bobby Schneck, the guitar player for Sonica, says all the music played at Pop’s grill was dedicated to Deven Starr.

“So our friend Deven Starr, who is a fellow musician, had a very unfortunate accident, out on highway 41. He was hit by a wrong way driver. Three fractured vertebrae, and he's got a mangled left hand. So he's gonna be out of commission for quite awhile", said Bobby Schneck.

Deven has cancelled all of his shows through next month.
