North Port crash involving semi-truck sends four people to hospital
NORTH PORT (WSNN) - A crash involving a semi-truck in north port sends four people to the hospital this morning.
It happened on the northbound lanes of I-75 just passed the Sumter Blvd exit around 7:45 a.m.
Florida Highway patrol tells SNN, it involved three vehicles plus a semi-truck with a septic tank.
FHP says the truck overturned after a wheelBARROW fell out of a vehicle in front of it causing a chain reaction accident.
That septic tank overturned, so the Florida Department of environmental protection was called to help clear the sewage contents.
"Florida Highway Patrol just wants to remind everyone how critical it is to make sure that anything that you are transporting in the back of your vehicle is secured," FHP trooper Kenn Watson said. "Something like this occurs far too often and jeopardizes the safety of everyone involved."
Three people were taken to a nearby hospital with one of them as a trauma alert. A fourth person had a family member take them to a nearby hospital to get checked out.
After two hours, FDEP and FDOT cleared the highway, and all travel lanes were reopened.
FHP says they are looking for the driver of the vehicle with the wheelBARROW. They don't have any information at this time. And the investigation is ongoing.
