Masks and Covid-19 vaccines will not be required for kids to head back to school in Sarasota County and Manatee County school districts.

Both counties say they are treating Covid like any other illness - if you are sick, you should stay home.

Neither district will be conducting contact tracing this year.

“The state has really made it so the parents are in charge of their decisions in terms of handling their kids when it comes to Covid. We can’t mandate face masks or anything like that. That’s totally up to the parent,” said Michael Barber, Director of Communications for Manatee County School District.

Manatee County says they will continue to inform parents if a student tests positive. Sarasota County says they will no longer be updating the COVID dashboard on the district website.
