FLORIDA - Since last year, U.S. home insurance premiums have gone up around 4 percent, but that's not the case in Florida.

Florida's home insurance rates skyrocketed 25%, and the Insurance Information Institute projects as high as 40% by the year's end. According to the III's Florida spokesperson, Mark Friedlander, a combination of the Florida Supreme Court, roofing fraud, and frivolous lawsuits have made Florida #1 in the nation for home insurance increases, both in raw dollars and percentages.

Florida's home insurance premiums skyrocketed compared to the rest of the nation.
