A Helping Hand: Grieving Bradenton widow and mother battles breast cancer
MANATEE COUNTY - Greg LaPensee, his wife Carlee and their two sons, Chandler and Preston were well known throughout the community in Manatee County. Greg grew up on Anna Maria Island, went to Manatee High School and owned LaPensee Plumbing. This month’s Helping Hand sponsored by Carl Reynolds Law hits particularly close to home.
“They went to school with a lol of my family, my brother-in-law and associate Bowen Summer knows the family quite well," says Carl Reynolds.
Sadly for the LaPensee family, tragedy would find them with 39-year-old Greg losing his battle to Covid-19 on Dec. 14th of 2021. Just three days later, Carlee would be hit with devastating news again.
"To add insult to injury, Ms. LaPensee gets diagnosed with breast cancer and has to undergo chemotherapy. It’s just a very heartbreaking situation," says Reynolds.
The outpouring of support from the community has helped Carlee, something that is easily overlooked is what other are rallying together to help provide.
“Because of chemotherapy she loses all her hair and that’s very difficult for any person. We’re trying to get enough money together to get a wig done for her so that she has that dignity and can feel comfortable being out in public," says Reynolds.
An unimaginable battle after inconceivable loss, Carlee now navigates providing for her boys all while focusing on beating breast cancer.
“She’s a fighter. Especially with the grace and strength that she has," says Reynolds.
