North Port man arrested on DUI charges after fatal crash kills Uber Passenger
North Port- A North Port man faces DUI manslaughter charges after a fatal New Year’s Eve crash that left a passenger in an Uber dead.
Just after 6 PM, a Ford F-250 and Toyota Camry collided at the corner of Toledo Blade Blvd. and Woodhaven Drive.
41-year-old Mark Barcia was driving the Ford Truck and was suspected to be operating the vehicle under the influence. He was arrested at charged with one count of DUI manslaughter, two counts of DUI with serious bodily injury, one count of DUI with personal injury and one count of DUI with property damage.
A backseat passenger of the Toyota Camry was pronounced dead at the scene, the driver and another backseat passenger were transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital as Trauma alerts but are expected to recover.
North Port Police confirm that the car involved in the crash was an Uber. The crash remains under investigation. Any witnesses are asked to contact the North Port Police Department.
