Veteran NBC Radio Journalist Passes Away in Bradenton
Veteran NBC Radio journalist Russ Ward has passed away in Bradenton. Tributes from colleagues have been rolling in for Ward, who chronicled some of the 20th century's most pivotal events.
Former NBC anchor Tom Brokaw said Ward was the ultimate pro, filing pitch perfect radio updates every hour with a photo of his beloved sail boat above his microphone. Ward reviewed his career for the Herald–Tribune in April by recounting his coverage of the Apollo 11 moon landing, a harrowing escape from Washington, D.C., race riots, and being on hand when gunmen attacked President Ford twice in 1975.
His follow– up report to the Kennedy assassination can still be found on the internet today. Ward was 93 yrs old.
