MANATEE COUNTY- Manatee County Sheriff’s Deputies once again teamed up with Ray Bellamy for their annual turkey drive.

Ray Bellamy grew up in Manatee County and was the first African American to sign a football scholarship and play for the University of Miami. Bellamy now comes back to his hometown to make sure that everyone has access to a good meal this holiday. Sheriff’s Deputies with help from the Bradenton Police and Palmetto Police Department helped pack boxes for those in need.

“When I had an opportunity to do what I did in life,” Bellamy said. “The foundation was laid by this community, and for years, I had done it in every community I lived, but I had never done it here, so I was going to make sure that even though I didn’t live here I was going to get it done.”

“We’re always about building relationships within our community,” Sheriff Wells said. “So once again, this is a prime opportunity for us to show how important it is we connect with people in good times as well.”

The food was distributed to pre-selected local families and churches.
