SARASOTA-  One of Sarasota County’s Most Wanted is back behind bars.

Stefan Mattox was taken into custody at customs at Tampa International Airport. Mattox was on the run for six months on two bench warrants for the sale of cocaine to an undercover detective and trafficking in heroin.  Sarasota Sheriff’s Captain Joe Giasone says it was a team effort to get him back into custody.

“Once he didn’t show up for court a warrant was issued,” Captain Giasone said. “He was assigned to our fugitive apprehension unit, which works in conjunction with the US Marshalls. We had initially gotten some information that he fled the country, which was why he was put on our most wanted list and why we enlisted the help of the US Marshalls. When somebody’s out of the state or out of the country, usually we’ll put it out there to get the public’s assistance to get him back into the country.”

Mattox is currently being held without bond at the Hillsborough county jail waiting to be moved to Sarasota.
