SARASOTA -- Once Robbie Higgins put the slow start to his season in the rear view mirror, there was no stopping the lefty. Over the weekend, Higgins captured the individual class 1A Boys Championship. Shooting a 2-under par 70 on Friday, and a 3-under par 69 on Saturday.

“When we went up in the practice round, I had this odd calmness the entire week, I just kind of knew I was very well prepared and that I was in a good state mentally,” Higgins said.

Mission Inn Resort & Club, located in Howey-in-the-hills Florida. A far cry from the courses we have here on the Suncoast.

“You are hitting shots that are 10 more yards up hill, or 10 less yards because it is downhill. So you really have to put that into consideration when you are selecting clubs,” Higgins said.

Higgins racked up seven pars, and one birdie after he made the turn at nine. He had one thing on his mind. History.

“The kid in my group said I had a four shot lead, so I am sitting on 18 saying ‘lets just hit this down the middle, and then you kind of can relax.’ Hit it right down the middle, then hit it on the green and two putt for my par. By then I knew I had it the bag. Higgins said.

“My team really kept really kept supporting me and positively influencing me, I couldn’t have done it without them,” Higgins said.
