SARASOTA - It's flu season and the health department wants you to get a flu shot. The season usually runs from September to May. But, the peak of the season in Florida is usually around January or February, according to the Immunization Program Manager for the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota, Donna Keith.

She encourages people to get their flu shots now. Keith says the flu shot helps reduce the risk of getting the flu.

"If you got a flu shot, they say that the severity of the symptoms is cut in half or better," Donna Keith said. "So it reduces hospitalizations. It definitely reduces deaths."
