SARASOTA - Gators were chomping at the bit today at Mote!

Handlers treated their gators and caymens to a pumpkin Halloween treat. Mote public relations specialist Stephanie Kettle says although the animals were wary about approaching the pumpkins, it is part of their animal care program to give them exciting new experiences.

“In the pumpkins there was a couple of different items including croc chow and some fish items. Things to get the gators interested in the pumpkins, help them and us get into the holiday spirit. But everyday our animals get some form of enrichment whether it’s themed or not," says Kettle.

Guests were able to watch the alligators as they fed on the carved hallowed out pumpkins. Kettle says Mote staff plans on coming up with more creative ways to get animals and guests excited about the holidays.
