VENICE -- The final Friday of October is upon us, and it is now or never for a lot of our Suncoast area teams.

“They understand this is a chance to be district champs, this is very important to them in how they work and how they compete, and they want to go out Friday night and be there very best,” Yusef Shakir said.

Venice and Manatee will lay it all on the line Friday night at Powell Davis Stadium, battling for the Class 7A-district 10 title.

“Have a championship on the line and we know winner takes all, it is going to be an exciting atmosphere, it is basically playoff time for us. We don’t get to play week 11, but we are in playoff mode, so this is basically round 1 for us," John Peacock said.

Sophomore Southpaw Jayce Berzowski has been leading the Hurricanes huddle.

“Really the first couple of weeks was him just getting baptized,” Shakir said.

Himself and Jayden Corbett have been dynamite recently. Eight Touchdowns over his past four games.

“He just works hard at what he does, so you are just so happy to see kids have success based off their work ethic. Now everyone has a lot of experience and we are a much deeper team than we were before,” Shakir said.

Venice has scored more than 40 points in all of their wins this year, as the Indians have it rolling at the moment.

“We had a great win last Friday against Cocoa, and I really feel like our team is getting better and our team is on the up-rise. We have had some big time strides in the last couple weeks, so I am real happy with where we are at, the future look bright,” Peacock said.
