According to a judge, the Sarasota school district owes a student for mishandling his education. This week a judge ordered the district to cover the cost of more than six years of compensatory education for one student, identified as "DJ".

The Sarasota County School District's treatment of a student with learning disabilities has left it on the hook for more than six years of compensatory education, private tutoring and mental health services, raising questions about liability for paying for services for other students. According to the Herald-Tribune, Internal district emails show that several students were wrongfully transferred into and then out of a modified curriculum designed for students with the lowest IQs.

The district is now looking into whether other students were similarly affected.
