Sarasota commissioners are bracing for a Selby Botanical Gardens showdown over the proposed parking garage. The next meeting is next Monday, October 28, and with a subject this contentious, the outlook for the discussion is not very rosy.

According to the Herald-Tribune, Commissioners agreed to schedule a 30 minute staff presentation with 45 minutes for the applicant, and 25 minutes each to speakers for the Bay Point Park Neighborhood Association ,which has led the charge against the Selby proposal , and other residents. Susan Chapman, a former city commissioner who also lives in the neighborhood, will receive 10 minutes.

Selby's team and the city staff will then have 15 minutes each for rebuttals. Then, after some discussion, commissioners agreed to give all other speakers at the meeting the five minutes apiece that is customary. The special meeting will be held from 1:30 to 9 p.m. Monday at City Hall, with a backup meeting, if needed, set for November 5th.
