Manatee County - The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has decided to replace the existing iconic low level Cortez draw bridge with a 65-foot fixed span bridge in the Village of Cortez entering the Bradenton Beach area.

FDOT sites several studies with different alternatives to improve the traffic flow on the street as well as on the water.

The new bridge is also said to allow for more walk able areas for pedestrians and cyclist. FDOT officials say they’re just in the design stage of the project. The estimated cost of installing the new bridge will be $2.1 million.

There's no set time of when construction will begin.
