Police: Bradenton woman confesses to overdosing disabled grandson
MANATEE COUNTY (SNN) - *UPDATE* Bradenton police have obtained an arrest warrant for Lillian Parks for the charge of Second Degree Murder. The 87-year-old Bradenton grandmother is charged with murdering her disabled 30–year–old grandson.
Police were called to the Carlton Arms Apartments Sunday around noon hen Joel Park's body was discovered by his sister. Detectives say his grandmother, Lillian Parks admitted that she overdosed him because she feared she was dying. Lillian was also the part–time caretaker for Joel, and had him staying with her on the weekends. Joel resided in a group home during the week.
Bradenton Police Captain, Brian Theirs said, "She (Lillian) was concerned about her medical condition and was worried about who would be caring for him in the event that she passed away. Joel's parents... his father is deceased, his mother is estranged."
Lillian was taken for medical evaluation and will be taken into custody when she is released from the hospital.
