Sarasota YMCAs delay reopenings 24 hours
SARASOTA COUNTY - YMCA members hopeful to get their first work out in at the Save Our Y Fitness Centers Monday morning were greeted with a "Closed" sign.
A 24 hour setback should not be enough to spoil all the good work and community collaboration that went in to keeping the Sarasota YMCAs open. Yet another curveball was thrown in the group's way Saturday, preventing a new chapter from beginning for two Sarasota YMCA branches. A Florida insurance regulation has forced the Save Our Y group to postpone the reopening of the two fitness centers until Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.
It was stated that new coverage cannot be finalized, during hurricane season when a storm named by the National Hurricane Center is within a 16,000 square–mile "box" extending over Florida.
Monday morning, more than 350 YMCA staff and instructors signed new papers, officially becoming "Save Our Y Fitness Centers" employees. Current YMCA members will have to re-sign membership papers Tuesday morning at the front desk to convert to "Save Our Y" members.
