Sarasota Police and Sarasota Sheriff's Office send sea turtle back to water
SARASOTA- A sick sea turtle rescued back in June got a special sendoff today. Sarasota Police and the Sarasota Sheriff's Office teamed up to rescue "tootsie, and this morning Deputy Mike Watson and Officer Michael Skinner brought the sick sea turtle to Mote Marine Lab where "Tootsie" has spent the past few months recovering.
Today they both went back to Mote to bring "Tootsie" back to the gulf. They are grateful they got to see a happy ending.
"It's certainly a humbling experience," Officer Skinner said. "There is a lot of time and effort that goes into the recovery of these animals and I'm happy to be a part of this today."
"It was very cool I'm glad I got to be a part of it," Deputy Watson. "I'm glad that it had a happy ending this time, We're used by Mote for a lot of different things, and a lot of times it's not a happy ending, but I'm happy for this day."
Marine units for the Police Department and Sheriff's Office both assist Mote Marine Lab with the recovery of animals when they're needed.
