SARASOTA- Sarasota County Commission got their first look at potential new voting districts.

The Tallahassee consultant offered three different maps , that even out the districts with no major changes. Commissioners said looking at the maps should refute any claims of potential gerrymandering. Public information sessions will be held to gain input before a new map is chosen.

Community Organizer Gabriel Hament still has concerns about how the process was handled.

“The initial input for these public maps was done in secret,” Hament said. “During private phone conversations with four of the commissioners with the Tallahassee based consultant hired on a no-bid contract, they’re not off to a good start, the public is starting to turn against the process.”

The board is scheduled to meet on November 5th for a public hearing and final vote on the maps.
