The Sarasota City Commission has decided to downsize the 45–hole Bobby Jones Golf course to 36 holes. This outcome will create two parks of more than 20 acres each.

According to the Herald-Tribune, with 5 options to choose from, commissioners chose  27 regulation holes and a nine–hole short course and enlarged driving range. This allows for two parks. One would be 25–acres west of Circus Boulevard where the Gillespie executive course is now; the other would be 22.5–acres east of the golf course.

The parks will include walking and biking trails that would connect to Fruitville Road and 17th Street, and also to the Bobby Jones clubhouse.
