Selby aquatic center debate continues
SARASOTA COUNTY - Sarasota County commissioners will consider a revised contract for the Selby Aquatic Center with the Sarasota Sharks.
On Tuesday, Sarasota County commissioners will consider a 10-year contract that keeps Sarasota Sharks Inc. in charge of operating the pool.
The nonprofit swimming organization has been running things under a sublease since 2017. The new lease makes it clear that this asset belongs to the county, but other organizations argued that they get short-shrift next to the Sharks.
Key changes in the new document, according to the Herald Tribune:
* A stipulation that the "reasonable fee" the Sharks charge for public use has to be approved by the county.
* Instead of an automatic 3% annual increase in a subsidy from the county for pool operations any increases or future decreases in the subsidy would be tied to the Consumer Price Index.
