SARASOTA COUNTY- All eyes are on Hurricane Dorian as its strength intensifies and its path of possibility widens.

Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried shares ways to get ready before the storm. She recommends stocking up on water, nonperishable food, medications, a first aid kit, flashlights, and a radio. The Red Cross has a helpful list to use before, during and after Dorian hits. Getting an Emergency Plan and emergency numbers ready can save time and even lives when disaster strikes. Make sure to answer questions like:

  • How will I receive emergency alerts and warnings?
  • What is my shelter plan?
  • What is my evacuation route?
  • What is my family/household communication plan?
  • Make sure to include your pets in your plans as well.

No evacuations are expected for the Suncoast just yet, but getting gas in your car and having cash on hand is recommended. As Hurricane Dorian continues to head for Florida, remember to avoid driving in a dangerous conditions, standing water and downed power lines.
