70,000 gallon sewage spill reported in Bradenton neighborhood
MANATEE COUNTY - More than 70,000 gallons of sewage reportedly spilled into a Bradenton neighborhood Wednesday.
According to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, around 11 a.m. Wednesday Manatee County staff found waste water spilling out of 5 manholes near the 3200 block of 21st Street East. A lift station was unable to keep up with additional flow caused by rain entering nearby draining ditches.
Sewage also backed up into a house in the 2100 block of 30th Avenue East. Staff contained the spill by Thursday afternoon.
An investigation is underway to determine if nearby bodies of water were affected by the spill.
