Bradenton man charged with rape of woman he met on Facebook
BRADENTON - A Bradenton man is arrested this week after deputies say he drugged and raped a woman he met on the Facebook Messenger App.
The Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports 37 year-old Daniel DeSear contacted a woman through Facebook Messenger on July 14 and arranged to meet out at a restaurant.
Detectives say DeSear supplied her with three prescription opioid pills before they went out. Later at a restaurant she consumed alcohol and began feeling the effects. She eventually passed out at her home.
That's when detectives say DeSear sexually assaulted her and recorded the act on his cellphone
“While she was asleep, DeSear was taking pictures and shooting video of her without her knowledge,” said MCSO spokesman Randy Warren.
Later that week, DeSear accidentally sent a picture to his ex-girlfriend’s cell phone depicting the crime.
He later asked to come over to the ex-girlfriend’s house to charge his phone. While at the house, she obtained more photos and videos when he wasn’t looking. She later sent the evidence to the victim and to authorities.
DeSear was arrested on Monday. He was booked into the Manatee County jail on charges of sexual battery and video voyeurism.
He is being held on a $225,000 bond.
