North Port residents concerned with rising taxes, fees
NORTH PORT - North Port residents are concerned with rising taxes and fees. These residents who voiced those concerns worry that as the city of North Port grows, rising taxes and fees will price them out of their homes.
Mayor Chris Hanks and City Manager Peter Lear listened to these concerns about the budget, payroll and the cost of the North Port Aquatic Center at a Town Hall meeting Monday night.
City taxpayers have been looking at a 9 percent increase to the fire fee, a change in the road and drainage assessment, as well as a bump in the solid waste fee and an increase in the property tax rate.
Concerns were raised, too, about contributing $4.7 million to the Atlanta Braves' Facility and spending $12 million on the North Port Aquatic Center, rather than other infrastructure needs.
