MANATEE COUNTY - University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee education students can  let out a sigh of relief, now that a job in a Manatee County School is guaranteed following internship completion and graduation.

This new agreement comes as 15 "Level 3" teaching interns at Manatee County Schools enter their last semester of school. Tuesday morning at an orientation, those students signed contracts abiding to the new agreement.

Upon graduating in December, level 3 students will be hired as permanent substitutes in the Manatee County School District and receive a bigger paycheck than subs hired by the district.

Then, once a permanent position opens in the district and their degree confers with the state, they're officially a Manatee County teacher. Marie Byrd, Director of USFSM's School of Education said the opportunity relieves stress and anxiety for these future educators. She said, "They completed their level , level 2, and level 3, which is their final internship in Manatee County, so this will be the third school that they've been placed as an intern, so they're very familiar with the county and with some of the schools."

Byrd said the university meets with Sarasota County Schools soon to discuss adopting a similar agreement.
