SARASOTA COUNTY - Work starts soon on a bicycle/walking trail to St. Armands.

The project, known as the Coon Key MURT, will be a multi–use recreational trail, including the installation of 10–foot sidewalks on either side of the road, starting at the twin bridges that connect Bird and Coon keys.

The new sidewalks will provide walkers, runners and cyclists with more safe space to St. Armands Circle and back. The construction will involve the removal and replacement of 226 invasive Australian pines which, will be replaced with 246 new native trees,

In addition to the sidewalks, a 16–inch asbestos–cement water main will be replaced on the north side of the road, and 3 SCAT bus shelters will be installed. Work begins in September.
