SARASOTA - It’s back-to-school time and the Mall at University Town Center hosted its first tax free back to school shopping bash, with a twist! Lakewood Ranch Medical Center stepped in offering free physicals for kids, right on site.

“The doctor was great, we got in there we got out, we got what we needed. It was really convenient," says Bradenton resident Janaya Vanahoof.

She says having the option to be seen at UTC’s back-to-school bash came right in the nick of time. “We were able to schedule her physical within two week. It cut the waiting time at least in half, and now she’s able to start school," says a relieved Vanahoof.

The inaugural event drew massive crowds as visitors took advantage of UTC’S one stop shop event. Marketing director Lauren Clark says she’s excited to see the event come together.

“We have fashion shows, performances from different local area dance troops, martial arts groups, after-school activities," says Clark.

Clark says the activities and vendors coming together is a good way to give back to the community and Manatee Urgent Care Manager Melissa Martin-Durham agrees. “Physical health of children are very important. This is probably our busiest time of the year for school physicals with all the back to school going on," says Durham.

Clark says with the success of today’s event, UTC will likely host a back-to-school event annually.
