Schools chief knew of allegations weeks before investigation began
SARASOTA COUNTY - Sarasota County School Superintendent Todd Bowden knew of allegations of harassment against one of his executive staff weeks before the executive was placed on leave
A May 22nd memo obtained by the Herald-Tribune from Superintendent Bowden shows that he knew many of the sexual harassment allegations against his Chief Operations Officer Jeff Maultsby but did not remove him from his position for several more weeks.
Bowden placed Maultsby on administrative leave on June 18, based on allegations that Maultsby had repeatedly harassed Cheraina Bonner, his administrative assistant. Although Bonner had approached Bowden with the complaint in April, the district did not announce an investigation until May 24, and Bowden said weeks later he had learned new information about the seriousness of her complaint.
