VENICE - In this case, the third time is not a charm.

About 1,500 gallons of reclaimed wastewater has spilled in Venice. About 500 gallons were recovered.

According to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, a valve on a reclaimed water line failed at about noon at Bird Bay Circle and Bird Bay Drive. The City of Venice isolated the valve and repaired it. Some of the reclaimed water reached a storm drain.

This is the third reported spill in Sarasota County this month. On July 9 more than 35,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled into a Siesta Key canal.
