Resident files ethics complaint against Venice City Councilman
VENICE - A Venice resident is filing an ethics violation charge against a Venice city council member.
According to the Herald Tribune, Dawn Champiny filed the complaint against Council Member Bob Daniels after she found he used his city–issued iPad to conduct a background search on her through the website radaris.com.after. Daniels then emailed the results to his wife's private email address — something that placed the results on the city's public email web server.
In addition to the ethics complaint, Champiny plans to attend the Aug. 27 Venice City Council meeting and ask him to resign.
Daniels has not broken any laws, though he may be in violation of the city's information technology usage policy — specifically a prohibition against "using technology resources for conducting personal business...or any activities not directly in connection with the transaction of official business."
