Unprecedented joint session aims to alleviate traffic issues
An unprecedented joint session took place between Sarasota city and Longboat Key town commissioners to alleviate traffic issues. A crucial roundabout remains a conflict, but water taxis are still a possibility.
A recent reconfiguration of the all–important intersection where John Ringling Boulevard meets Tamiami Trail at Gulf Stream Avenue is a huge area of concern. Longboat Key Commissioners implored Sarasota officials to consider dropping plans to put a roundabout there, but,the Gulf Stream roundabout is in the design phase, with construction to begin in the fall of 2020.
Leaders also discussed pedestrian bridges over U.S. 41 to the Bayfront, and water taxis between the mainland and the islands.
