SARASOTA-  Suncoast Blood Bank has an urgent need for O+ and O- blood types.  The entire country is in a blood shortage because of severe weather in other parts of the country. They are asking for people to come out tomorrow and through the weekend to help them. Community Affairs Director Jayne Giroux says summer is one of their toughest seasons to collect blood.

“Summer is a challenging time for us every year,” Giroux said. “Because 25% of our donor base is composed of students and our high school drives, and as we know they’re not in session, our winter residents are gone and people are on vacation, so we prepare for this time, but recent blood needs have really spiked, a single patient can use up the blood supply for one hospital.

You can find information on where to find a blood drive or office location this weekend on their website
