PLACIDA - In this week's edition of Feel Good Friday, SNN's Grant Boxleitner spent time at Eldred's Marina at the doorstep of Gasparilla Island in Placida.

The CCA Florida STAR fishing tournament begins Saturday and runs through Sept. 2. The 100-plus day event features more than $500,000 in prizes and scholarships.

Charlotte County is one of just two counties on Florida's west coast that will have eight tagged redfish released for the tournament, compared to the rest of the counties, including Sarasota and Manatee, that will have four.

The Punta Gorda/Englewood Visitor & Convention Bureau is a sponsor of the CCA Florida STAR.

The fishing tournament rules include catch, photo and release, featuring 11 species, including snook, grouper and tarpon.

STAR Director Leiza Fitzgerald talks about the tournament. Catch Feel Good Friday weekly on SNN, the Suncoast News Network.
