SARASOTA COUNTY - A massive crash Thursday morning overturned a tractor trailer with a dog inside and dislodged a boat onto I-75. Florida Highway Patrol Troopers arrived to the accident on I–75 South near Clark Road just before 10 a.m. for crash. Troopers said the semi was traveling in the middle lane, the driver then attempted to move into the right lane when he collided into a boat in tow of another car.

The truck overturned and the boat disconnected from the car. Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Kenn Watson said, "One driver (of the tractor-trailer), his injuries are minor in nature. He was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and he did have an Alaskan Malamute with him. Sarasota County Fire Department actually did a great thing, they used the jaws of life to do a great thing to free the animal from the cab of the truck that had been crushed. I'm happy to say that the dog is okay and he's resting comfortably with the county's animal shelter."

The boat was removed from the roadway shortly after and was deemed a total loss. The roadway is now clear. The investigation continues.
