Sailors top the Indians in the later innings 3-1
SARASOTA COUNTY - The defending 7A District State champion Venice Indians traveled north to face the runner up in the 8A State finals from last year the Sarasota Sailors.
Starting pitching dominated the game as Indians starter Danny Rodriguez and Sailors starting pitcher David Barrett made batters look silly at the plate. The Indians scored a run in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly-ball by Mac Gusette to lead 1-0. Rodriguez would strike out the side in the bottom of the first inning. Barrett struck out two in the following inning.
The Sailors would take the lead in the bottom of the sixth as Jacob Faulkner relieved Rodriguez. Faulkner gave up a base hit to Uriel Hernandez to score Michael Dorso to tie the game at one. Next batter Owen Ayers hits one deep to center field for a triple scoring Hernandez all the way from first base and the Sailors take their first lead 2-1. Sailors added another run as Harrison Long hit a double into center field scoring Ayers to put Sarasota 3-1 and that would be the final score.
