Dickie V's granddaughter wins major international tennis title
LAKEWOOD RANCH - Dick Vitale may be known as the voice of college basketball, but his granddaughters are representing on a different court, and in a different sport.
13-year-old Ava Krug is in 7th grade, just won a big major INTERNATIONAL TENNIS FEDERATION tennis championship in El Salvador. She won 5 matches to win the title, and in the Finals she beat 16-yr-old Maria Rizzolo, who is rated # 30 in the nation and # 2 in Florida. Ava is #3 in the nation among 7th graders and # 1 in Florida in her class.
Ava is the daughter of Lorraine and Dick's daughter Sherry, and her husband, Judge Thomas Krug. Ava actually won a doubles State Tennis Championship for Out-of-Door Academy with her cousin, Sydney Sforzo. Sydney is the daughter of the Vitale's other daughter, Terry and her husband, Dr. Chris Sforzo. Both of the Vitale daughters played college tennis at Notre Dame.
