SARASOTA - At Booker High School Monday night, "MLK: Celebrating His Legacy in Spoken Word and Song" took to the stage.

The Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe and Booker High students honored Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on what would have been his 90th birthday.

“We’ve combined speeches of Dr. King's with choral pieces," Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe Executive Director Julie Leach said.

Tamara Williams with the Sarasota County Bar Association, hopes the audience takes away hope from MLK's mission.

"Regardless of race, creed, or color, we can all work together to get things done,” Williams said.
