National Anthem auditions held for Pittsburgh Pirates Spring training games
MANATEE COUNTY- Some local residents will have their voice heard before Pittsburgh Pirates Spring Training Games.
The Pirates held auditions for who will sing the National Anthem in front of up to 7,000 fans at Lecom Park during the Spring. Nearly 100 applicants came to show off what they could do.
"It's sort of a unique thing for a kid her age to do, and it's something that's sort of uniquely American, so it seems like a great opportunity for kind of a blending of the two," said John Maly, father of an contestant.
Auditions were supervised by Pirates employees and they will narrow down the contestants to fill spots in the schedule. Participants who are not selected may be asked to sing the anthem at Bradenton Marauders games.
