'One Thing I Wish You Knew' mental health panel this weekend
SARASOTA - If you think you or someone you know could be struggling with mental illness, the Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee is here to help. Sunday, Jan. 13, the federation will host 'One Thing I Wish You Knew,' a mental health awareness event for teens and those who care for them. The event will feature narratives from people affected by mental illness, tips on how to recognize warning signs of mental illness, and how to help.
Ella Steinmetz, who helped organize the event, works with teens at Chabad of Sarasota-Manatee, and says she's noticed a pattern.
"They're afraid to seek help; they don't wanna talk about it; they don't wanna admit they're dealing with mental health struggles just because there's such a strong stigma surrounding mental health," Steinmetz said. "We need to start conversation in this community about mental health."
The event is Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Beatrice Friedman Theater (582 McIntosh Road) and is open to the public. Hallie Peilet will be there to moderate a panel of mental health experts, asking them questions to learn more about how we can help those struggling with mental illness. For details click here.
