CHARLOTTE COUNTY- Three of Charlotte County Sheriff’s K-9’s are now safer on the streets.  Sparta, Abubis, and Scar each received a new bulletproof vest provided by the Retired Law Enforcement Officers Association of Southwest Florida thanks to a grant from the Charlotte Community Foundation. Spokesperson Katie Heck says the donations will help the K-9’s protect the community.

“These guys are great, they arrange,” Heck said. “They fit the dogs for the vests, and now three more of our K9’s on patrol have bulletproof vests, if they have to respond to one of those scenes where it’s maybe a SWAT callout, and we expect the dog can be in harms way.”
