CHARLOTTE-  Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office is looking for your help identifying identity theft suspects.

Three males were caught on surveillance video using stolen credit cards to make over $2,200 dollars’ worth of purchases at Port Charlotte Town Center Mall on November 5th. The credit cards were stolen from a victim’s purse when she was unloading groceries at a nearby grocery store. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Katie Heck says it’s a good reminder to keep an eye on your bag when your shopping.

“Especially with people coming and going from different shopping plazas,” Heck said. “And maybe putting a grocery cart away, you should always keep your valuables with you. So even if you unlock your car and unload your groceries, keep your purse on you or wallet, car keys, until your actually sitting in your car and driving away.”

With holiday shopping season in full swing, Heck says it's a good idea to be aware of your surroundings in crowded parking lots. Witnesses believe the men using the credit cards are from the area, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. If you have any information you can contact the Sheriff's Office at 941-639-2101, you can also contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
