SARASOTA COUNTY - In this week's edition of Feel Good Friday, SNN's Grant Boxleitner spent time at the preparations for the 10th Annual Gingerbread Festival.

The event for years had been held at Westfield Sarasota Square mall, but this year, the festival is making its debut at the Mall at University Town Center. In addition to a new venue, the gingerbread festival is also being extended to 10 days from the traditional three.

The festival - presented by the Girl Scouts Of Gulfcoast Florida - begins at 4 p.m. today and runs through Dec. 9. The houses will be sold for charity as many families use them as a centerpiece for their holiday decorations.

More than 100 gingerbread houses made by local businesses, schools,  youth groups and nonprofits are on display.

Visitors can vote for their favorite creation in the People's Choice Award for $1 per vote. The event includes several local sponsors, including the Herald-Tribune and Publix.

The community judging took place prior to the festival. The awards ceremony for the top three houses in four categories will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Jaime Estes, the communications director at Girl Scouts Of Gulfcoast Florida, talks about the free event during the segment.
