SARASOTA COUNTY - It has all been building up for this moment… July 30th, the first official day of non-contact practice, to the start of the regular season on August 24th, to now…Eight area teams will play in the first round of the playoffs Friday night, Class 8A down to 3A.Riverview will host Port. St. Lucie Treasure Coast, after the Rams locked up their third consecutive district title.

Manatee squeaked into the playoffs as a seven seed, giving the Hurricanes a road contest at Kissimmee Osceola. If both the Hurricanes and the Rams win, they will meet in the regional semifinal.The 7A bracket is where we have some fun… Venice, the defending champs and winners of nine straight were awarded the one seed, securing home-field through the first three rounds.Braden River and Palmetto will be on the road during the first round this Friday.If both the Pirates and Indians advance past this Friday, we are set up for another match up between these great foes.

In Class 6A, Charlotte will host Clearwater Friday night, serving as the two seed.Struggling to get the gears turning at the start of the season, the Booker Tornadoes, winners of four straight are the areas representatives in the 5A bracket. Coach Dumaka Atkins and the boys will travel North to take on Peterburg Lakewood.And last but not least, the Cardinal Mooney Cougars of Class 3A will welcome Clearwater Calvary Christian this Friday, as head coach Paul Maechtle has his team in the dance in year one.
