Florida Tourism Numbers on the Rise
SARASOTA – So far this year Florida has seen strong tourism numbers.
Florida drew an estimated 33.2 million visitors from January through March, a 7.4 percent increase over the same period in 2017 and a record for any quarter, Gov. Rick Scott and the tourism–marketing agency Visit Florida said Tuesday.
The increase this year was buoyed by 29.1 million domestic visitors, 8.5 percent more than during the first quarter of 2017
Scott, who is running for U.S. Senate this year, has made a high–profile priority of increasing tourism numbers and has pushed the Legislature to set aside money for Visit Florida’s marketing efforts.
Lawmakers approved $76 million for the current year and the same amount for the fiscal year that starts July 1.
