Viewers may need to rescan their TV’s on August 22nd
WSNN will be moving frequencies on August 22nd at 5pm. Viewers who watch the Suncoast News Network, GRIT TV and LAFF TV over-the-air via an antenna will need to rescan their televisions in order to continue to receive our programming. You will continue to receive WSNN on Channel 39.
Viewers who watch us via Comcast, Frontier, Spectrum or DISH Network will NOT have to do anything to continue enjoying our program offerings.
What you need to do
For those viewers who will need to rescan, the process is simple but one that differs depending on the brand and model of your television. Rescanning is easiest to do using the remote control that came with your television. You will not need to purchase any additional equipment or services.
Why is WSNN moving?
Recently, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which regulates the public airwaves, held an auction to reallocate TV broadcast airwaves for wireless internet broadband services.
Now nearly 1,000 TV stations are required to move frequencies to make room for wireless internet carriers.
As directed by the FCC, TV stations will be moving frequencies at different times starting in 2018 through at least the spring of 2020. This may require viewers who use an antenna to watch TV to rescan more than once – each time a local station changes frequencies.
To rescan, follow these steps:
- Press the menu button on your remote control
- Find “Antenna” or “Channel” and click the ok/select button
- Find “Auto Program”, “Auto Tune” or “Rescan” and click the ok/select button
- Your television will now “Auto Scan” for all available channels
This could take up to 15 minutes.
After the rescanning is complete, you should be able to watch WSNN/Suncoast News Network on Channel 39.1, GRIT TV on Channel 39.2 and LAFF TV on Channel 39.3. It is very important that you DO NOT rescan before 5pm on August 22.
