SARASOTA – Harvey Vengroff, a well known developer of affordable housing on the Suncoast, has died.
The Herald-Tribune reports Vengroff died unexpectedly at his Sarasota home at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
He was an advocate for affordable housing in both Manatee and Sarasota counties and was committed to helping find hard working families find a comfortable and safe place to live.
SNN spoke to Vengroff last month when he said he wanted to bring affordable housing to the City of Sarasota and make a difference in people’s lives.
“Doesn’t everybody,” Vengroff said back on September 18, 2018. “I mean some people show it, fortunately we have enough to be able to spend some time and really try to make a difference, I mean everybody tries to make a difference in their own way, but we have the ability to make a difference in a lot of lives. We have two thousand families that live under our roofs and most of them are pretty happy.”
Vengroff’s five children say they hope to carry on his legacy and passion for helping people. Vengroff was 77 years old.
