Suncoast man creates independent web series

LONGBOAT KEY – Barry Gaines is an I.T. specialist for the Town of Longboat Key.

When he’s not in the office, he’s working on his web series.

“I really wanted to make something that I always wanted to see,” Gaines said.

He combined elements from his favorite films to create the sci-fi, fantasy series, “A World of Worlds.”

It takes place on Ressear, a planet in a parallel universe where a warlock has taken over, but Gaines says that’s just the beginning.

“It’s a very big story,” he said.

He’s trying to get the show on streaming sites including Hulu and Netflix, where, if you want, you could leave a show with the click of a button.

That’s what Gaines is trying to avoid.

“So my job as the writer, director, and editor is to keep the audience engaged as much as I can,” Gaines said, “not just by the pace of it, but by the characters that I make and by the actors that are behind those characters.”

He’s working toward that goal with every spare second he can find.

“It’s daunting at times because I do the filming and the editing and the writing and the color grading,” Gaines said.

He says it’s daunting, but rewarding.

“..start to build it, you know, plant the seeds on it,” Gaines said. “To see people coming around and gravitating to it, it’s a huge, huge inspiration to say, ‘You know what? Maybe I did something right.’”

As an independent director, Gaines wants your suggestions of what you want to see on the show.
